Default What are people doing with Guilds these days?

I see people recruiting for guilds in a lot of outposts and was wondering what people are doing with guilds these days. I joined a guild called [BEER] and it was fun at first but then the guild seemed to merge with an older, more established guild. I was a total n00b at the time and had no idea why people left or where they were going. My wife is a member of the [TIME] guild and as far as I can tell they don't do any organized events.

What kinds of things are people doing with guilds these days? I figure I'm going to join a new, more active, guild at some point and was just wondering what kind of objectives guilds had. I looked through the recruiting forum on this site and a lot of the guilds seem pretty serious.

Thanks in advance, and hopefully this isn't a dumb question!

My guild (or, rather, the guild I'm part of) gets together once a week for a semi-organized play session. We've gone through the main storyline of each campaign + eotn and are now finishing up WiK. I'm not sure what we'll be doing next, but that's what we've been doing for the last year or so.

It's actually more fun than it sounds. Instead of PUG'ing through with randoms, we can complement each other's builds and play styles... and there are enough of us that we can only take 1-2 heroes.

Oh, and sometimes we get distracted with events/farming/Nick/etc. It's a lot more fun with a group.

There are guilds out there that are active and yet casual. For example, this month we held an alliance hide n seek contest and we're having a trivia contest this weekend. We ventured into Fissure of Woe with several guildies who have never been there and we farmed for Canthan New Year ingredients and Nicholas items. Not all casual guilds are inactive.

Our guild has turned from GW guild to game community, where most people actually play other games, but still together. Also regular meetings are done for the UK based members, and even a marriage has come from it.
So to answer your question: the guild is used as a social base of operations :P. And of course from time to time to do some GW together.

I personally decided that I had pretty much finished with what there was in gw so I made a guild to retire in. But then the HoM update hit and there's also GWBeyond to do so I'm going to be sticking around for a while yet.

I started a guild to run with me and a few friends, and basically all we do is fill our HoMs, and help new players. Our alliance has semi-organized events whenever someone feels like organizing one.

Most of the time we basically just try to get the guild off of the ground. Its really hard to get recruits these days, let alone keep them around long enough to grow.

My guild does nothing. It's just me and one other guy.

But we like the guild hall, and it's fully stocked, and we like the ability to flip us from Luxon to Kurzick on a whim, so we can pad our titles.

So... we're just really lonely most of the time. Mebby we should find an alliance, but then I suspect most alliances don't want 2-man guilds in them, and we'd lose the ability to flip Lux/Kurz, so.... well, we don't do much.

Just joined a new Guild/Ally after leaving the one I've been in for ~3yrs.
It's nice just chit chat with people and not having to monitor the chat. =/
And the Ally does little nightly events which are always enjoyable. No one rages, everyone has a good time... I rather like this Ally.

have a look at the Guild Recruitment section of Guru:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/g...ment-f265.html

The guilds that are recruiting will usually list the kind of things they do and what kind of community they are.

Thats nice, should've had Anet pay for a big fairytale wedding for them. Well as long as there names aren't Gwen and Keiran

Tuesdays are normal mode missions (so people can catch up on their alt's.) Wednesdays are hard mode night; we've been doing the Mon-Tue-Wed z-quest/bounties lately.
Thursdays are casual pvp night; primarily AB/JQ/FA and skirmishes.
Friday is Alliance Adventure night; UW/FoW/DoA/Deep, etc.
Sunday is Dungeon and RP night.

Nothing organized on Saturdays and Mondays but there are usually people online willing to do a vanq, etc. We even have a few retirees in the alliance so chances of finding someone on during the day are pretty good.

Well I'm in this gigantic alliance called [KISS] with about 1750 members and we've got UW, FoW and Dungeon runs, vanquishes, HoM point-farming, missions, PvP and so on pretty much everyday.

Randomly found out about it and I guess I got lucky , if you're stuck somewhere or feel like doing something just posting it in AC usually gets enough people together for a run in something.
